What are five facts about you?
- My legal guardian is my aunt, Janet. I live with her and her four kids (my cousins): Michael, Danielle, Benjamin and Mark. They’re the centre of my universe.
- I love Star Trek – specifically Star Trek: The Next Generation
- I collect comics – specifically Valèrian and Laureline.
- If I could live anywhere, I’d live on the starship Enterprise-D.
- I have had a crush on Marina Sirtis, who plays Deanne Troi on Star Trek: The Next Generation since I was eleven.
Where did you grow up?
In a shit hole in Wigan with my alcoholic dad who liked to beat the crap out of me. It would be an understatement to say the first eleven years of my life were shit. Cold house, mattress for a bed, sick on the floor, no food in the fridge. Fucking awful. Until I was removed and went to live with Jan, my aunt. Then things were all egg custard tarts, comic books and fish finger sandwiches. Total opposite. And I’m so grateful.
Who are the special people in your life?
My aunt, Janet and my cousins. My friends, especially Jasper who I’d say is my best friend. He’s a bit of a grump but he’s always there for you. And Emily…but she doesn’t even know I exist.
Would you rather…sell your comic books or never watch Star Trek again?
Well that’s cruel. Um…sell my comic books. I couldn’t live without Deanna Troi.
Desert Island: Three Items
- My comic book collection – that’s it. I’d be happy just reading on a beach for the rest of my days.
- Oh and my Snow Patrol album – and a CD player…and some headphones.
- Damn it, I sounded so wise with just one thing and now I’ve ruined it.
What’s something you wish you were better at?
Making decisions. Being brave. Being assertive. Standing up for myself. Not letting my insecurities rule me. Wait, how many did you say?
What’s something you’re proud of?
How far I’ve come. I cringe as I say that cos it’s not me saying it, it’s Jan. But I guess I better get used to saying positive shit about myself if I’m gonna be better at any of the things I listed above.
What’s something you’re ashamed of?
Just one thing? Um…the scars on my back. No, my teeth. No – the way my joints all click like I’m a puppet or something. My stupidly long arms and legs. That one curl in my fringe that never stays out of my eye. My reading glasses – my stupid eyes for needing glasses! Oh and my feet cos they’re weird.
What are you looking forward to right now?
Honestly? Christmas. I should be looking forward to the Inter School Games and my big fight in November but honestly, I just wanna go home. Same shit, different year. I’m still a coward and I still haven’t told her how I feel.

What brought you to Hillside Academy?
I got in on a Maths and Science scholarship…so my brain? And I guess my aunt thought I needed a fresh start. Away from all the nightmares. Unfortunately, they came with me.
Favourite Word?
Emilia – but that’s a name so it doesn’t count. How about – muffin? Cos that’s what I fucking am.
