The Houses of Hillside Academy

There are five Houses at Hillside Academy and all students are randomly sorted into a House when they start school. The Houses are named after local ancient woods in the area and each have a symbol of a British bird also native to the area. They have an individual colour and motto, and in the lower school where the students are required to wear uniforms, the ties are striped with the main school colours (blue and gold) as well as a third stripe indicating which House the student belongs to.

In the Lower half of the school (so all years excluding Sixth Form), there are Inter House Games which are played annually between all five Houses in early June. A trophy is given to the winning House and Bowden have held that trophy title for the last ten years, being the most athletic of all the Houses (2001-2011).

Read on to discover the five Houses and if you’re lucky enough to be an Alumni or have received an acceptance letter, you’ll be able to find the House you’ve been sorted into and learn more about it, including its colours, symbol, motto and what characters you share your House with!
